Hey Wetwesties,
The Unsuperbowl 5 campout went off great! We arrived on Friday about 3:30
and settled into site A49. The weather was great on Friday, a few showers
and lots of sun! We had 15 vans by midnight and a flickering fire to send us
off to sleep, along with Grateful Dead music from Steve's van (by the way,
there were 4 Steve's there, isnt that a record?).
Saturday morning was slow and relaxing. saturday afternoon we had 5
encounters with the park ranger, who was a letter-of-the-law kind of guy. We
learned all of the "additional vehicle rules" inlcuding (1) only one
"camper" per spot (2) only one car can be plugged in at a spot (3)
a camper
is not a camper unless it has a pop-top, tarp, or other "exterior"
accessory, and (4) next year we will all get individual spots so the park
ranger leaves us alone! To his credit, the Park Host was the same guy from
last year, and he was kind thoughtful and considerate. The potluck on
saturday night was EXCELLENT with some serious culinary delights (ie
hedgehog mushroom polenta, homemade sausages, etc). After diner, Julie
Gamache gave a private slide show by laptop of the Africa trip last summer.
Saturday night was rainy and a little windy, with a total of 25 busses/vans
camped out (see photo). Brian had the 8 track Pink Floyd cranked until 1:30
AM, of course it was headphones only... Sunday morning was a fine breakfast
potluck with duck eggs, pancakes, coffee cake (blueberry - Go Leon and
Mary), coffee, bacon and more... The hall (and Justin Hall too) was cleared
out by noon. And on the way out, Unsuperbowl founder, Kathleen stopped by to
say hello!
All in all, it was 3 days of good Oregon coast winter camping. Stephanie and
I (and Lizzy) had a great time. Our bus served us well and we are already
thinking of improvements for Unsuperbowl VI. There were several
"first-timers" and we were glad to have them, nice to see the VW spirit
continues to grow.
I have compiled a JPEG photo of the weekend.
Individual Pics
There were a few items left in the meeting hall, please email backchannel if
you are missing something. Also, Zach and Kris and Stephanie and I are
planning an Olympia Brewcruise in coming months (family-friendly) so stay
tuned.
Thanks to all the people who attended, i call it a MAJOR SUCCESS!
